Project #6

This very old and dear chair has a hand woven and pegged cane back. The holes in the wood frame do not go all the way through to the back of the chair like you would normally see in the woven cane chairs. In order to repair the cane in the back, each strand of cane needs to be cut, woven and then pegged into place. This is a bit of a time consuming job but well worth the effort. The first pictures you see here are as it came in. The seat and the arms have needle point upholstery on them which I believe was done by a family member. A lot of love has gone into this chair.

Above are the first three stages of a seven stage process. Note how everything is temporarily pegged into position.

Below is stage four complete, creating a checkerboard. Stage five is started with the cane woven diagonally.

Stage 6 complete.                                                          Stage 7 is the boarder which is very fussy with these pegged backs.

I                                                    The finished project!! The cane looks lovely with the needlepoint.
